At 12 years old, Evany contracted an unknown virus that attacked her muscles, making it difficult for her to walk. After a week in the children’s hospital, she returned home with fluid around her heart and lungs.

On December 2, Evany woke up vomiting and seeing black spots. Her heart was racing, and she was rushed to the CICU, where she spent nearly a month undergoing multiple rounds of ECMO before being placed on the heart transplant list.

On Christmas Eve, Evany received a new heart—the greatest gift of all. We are beyond grateful for the life-saving gift made possible by her donor and the exceptional care team at the children’s hospital.
